Sam Posen
Physics & Sensing Focus Area Co-Lead
Senior Scientist, Associate Lab Director APS-TD, Fermilab, SQMS
Sam Posen leads the Physics and Sensing Focus Area, where they leverage the quantum technology and testbeds of SQMS to look for signs of beyond-the-standard-model physics. This includes searching for dark matter and developing novel detectors for gravitational waves.
Sam’s background is in superconducting radiofrequency cavities, a technology that enables Fermilab’s high sensitivity searches for extremely small signals. He is researching a number of innovative methods to perform these searches, including looking for excitation of an unpowered resonator, using multiple modes of a single resonator, looking for transmission of a signal from one resonator to another and performing high-precision measurements of trapped particles.
