Carlos G. Torres Castanedo
Ph.D. Candidate, Northwestern University; Materials Focus Area Team Member, SQMS
Areas of Expertise: Materials Science
Thrust: Technology, Science
Carlos G. Torres Castanedo is pursuing a degree in materials science and engineering at Northwestern University (NU). He is from Mexico where he earned an M.S. in physics and a B.S. in engineering physics. At the beginning of his Ph.D. studies at NU, he worked in in-situ Li-ion batteries X-ray studies. Now in SQMS, he works primarily in X-ray-based characterization techniques, including XRR, XRD, and XPS. By studying blanket samples, he attempts to connect material properties with superconducting device performance. He is investigating encapsulating schemes using pulsed laser deposition and different annealing/etching schemes to modify materials’ properties.
