IBM Lead PI

Principal Research Scientist, IBM

Dr. Jason Orcutt is a Senior Manager and Principal Research Scientist at IBM Quantum. Jason received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from MIT where he pioneered “zero-change” photonic integration in a variety of state-of-the-art CMOS and DRAM processes. Joining IBM in 2013, he contributed to the manufacturing transition of IBM silicon photonics research. After getting involved in the quantum computing effort with the launch of the IBM Quantum Experience in 2016, he co-invented a technique to tune the resonant frequency of superconducting qubits known as LASIQ and initiated research efforts for microwave quantum interconnects between processors known as l-couplers. Jason has co-authored over 100 publications while being granted more than 90 US patents. Currently, he is part of the quantum hardware team where he collaborates to build new generations of IBM Quantum systems.
