Associate Clinical Professor of Physics, University of Maryland

Dr. Shabnam Jabeen is an Associate Clinical Professor of Physics at the University of Maryland and a Fellow of the National Quantum Laboratory (QLab). Dr. Jabeen has extensive experience in collider experiments, including the CMS Experiment at LHC and the DØ experiment at the Fermilab. Her scientific contributions span top-quark and Higgs boson physics, including participation in the discovery of the Higgs boson as part of the CMS Collaboration, which received the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics. She has held multiple leadership roles in these collaborations, including physics and trigger convenerships, detector commissioning, and service on publication review boards. Within SQMS, Dr. Jabeen’s work explores hybrid quantum-classical algorithms, quantum machine learning, and quantum-inspired approaches for state tomography, generative modeling, and the simulation and analysis of high-energy particle collisions. Dr. Jabeen is also active in mentoring and workforce development, supervising graduate and undergraduate researchers working at the intersection of quantum information science, machine learning, and particle physics.
