Josh Mutus is interested in experiments to uncover the microscopic sources of noise and decoherence in superconducting qubits. This work is built on the foundation of sound metrology: to understand the impact of the apparatus and environment on the characterization of performance of superconducting qubits. To this end, he is heavily involved in the round robin effort at SQMS, as well as many of the efforts to correlate structural characterization with device performance.
